Driving Global Food Conservation Through Technological Innovation — AGRIFAM Debuts at the Second International Conference on Food Loss and Waste

In November 2024, the General Secretary Xi Jinping announced at the 19th G20 Summit that "China will stay a committed host of the International Conference on Food Loss and Waste." To implement this initiative put forward by the General Secretary Xi Jinping, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, the National Food and Strategic Reserves Administration, and the People's Government of Shandong Province jointly hosted the 2025 International Conference on Food Loss and Waste in Jinan, Shandong Province, from July 24 to 26, 2025.

Peng Qinghua, Vice Chairperson of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), attended and addressed the conference. Zhang Zhili, Vice Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Lin Wu, Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Shandong Provincial Committee, and Qin Yuyun, Deputy Head of the National Food and Strategic Reserves Administration (NFSRA), attended and delivered speeches. The conference was presided over by Zhou Naixiang, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Shandong Provincial Committee and Governor of Shandong Province.

"Food is the paramount necessity of the people," and reducing food loss and waste is a shared concern of the international community. Under the theme "Reducing Food Loss and Waste: Tech Innovation and Global Action for a Food-Secure World," this conference brought together over 300 participants, including ministers of agriculture, high-level officials, and ambassadors to China from relevant countries; heads and representatives in China of international organizations such as FAO; representatives from non-governmental organizations; think tanks, universities, and renowned domestic and international experts; representatives from leading domestic and international agricultural enterprises; and responsible officials from agricultural and rural departments of relevant provinces. The conference focused on discussing and sharing ways to provide more effective policy support, improve governance mechanisms for reducing food loss and waste, and engage in policy dialogues and experience exchanges on global cooperation in food loss and waste reduction.
